"Boy, that's the strangest kid I've ever seen!" Peppermint Patty wasn't too sharp, but could be forgiven for marveling at the many guises of Snoopy - an enduring and much-loved character from the 1960s comic, 'Peanuts'. If a beagle's average life span is 12 - 15 years, it's fair to say that Snoopy lived at least a dozen lifetimes in that time - in his own wondrous and incredibly vivid imagination.
Introducing the magnificent magician brand archetype, Snoopy. Otherwise known as Joe Cool (school kid, caterer, part-time check-out guy, romantic, musician and surfer). Also known as the World War I Flying Ace, the author in residence and the local baseball team's shortstop.
He thought outside the square and literally slept outside his kennel; Snoopy's imagination was as legendary as his endless supply of props.
If like Snoopy, you love to dream big and live large, there's every chance your personal and/or business shares attributes with this naturally intuitive and inspiring archetype:
~ You're forever parched, because your thirst for knowledge is endless. Although you'd much rather demonstrate your knowledge through storytelling and clever use of props, than share it.
~ When they wish upon a star, makes no difference where they are. You'll make their dreams come true.
~ You see the vision and then see it through. This allows you to be in total control from inception to completion.
~ You have an extraordinary aversion to ordinariness. You believe vanilla only works in tandem with other flavours, hues and personalities. On its own, it falls well short.
~ You believe living in the moment doesn't necessarily mean living in reality. You exist to make moments magical and whimsical. If the status quo is not in the state you want it, you'll transport yourself and others to a better place - if only for a moment.
~ You abhor the prospect of boredom. You subscribe to the adage that boring people (and dogs) get bored.
~ You see life as a transformative journey of endless solutions for every problem. You proudly offer clarity to the confused, security to the insecure, refreshment to the fatigued and help the lost find themselves.
~ You feel that negative outcomes are positively disastrous. This is one of your greatest fears. Which means you're a gifted planner. In fact, your oft forgotten secondary role is as a 'risk and crisis' manager. You always see two, three, four steps ahead.
~ If fun has been absent from your day, you see this as a fundamental failure. You live to deliver happiness, so if you haven't inspired anyone or created a fun environment (if only for a while), you'll take steps to rectify this, post haste.
~ Nothing is impossible. In fact, you're first to read the word as, "I'm possible". And you'll let others know all about it so they too believe that anything's possible.
Dyson, TED Talks and Snickers are all magician brands.
